Lil Padawan turns 18months old today!

Our daughter’s turning into quite the fierce toddler. She’s not afraid to make her stand and she won’t allow people to take advantage of her. (sometimes I’m afraid she may turn into a bully but we’re setting boundaries so she won’t get there). In any case, over the past few weeks, we’ve realized that Wardah can help out in terms of putting away stuff and passing stuff to either one of us when asked. As in, after playing bubbles with her, I asked her nicely to return the container to its rightful place and she did. Of course, after such events, much fanfare is made to give her positive reinforcement :)

She’s also turning out to be quite the talker, recognizing items and its names. What’s a tad annoying is that she refuses to say “Tok Wan”-what she’s supposed to call my MIL. Whenever we try to teach her to say Tok Wan, she’ll answer “two, three”…get it? hahaha….we suspect it’s her private little joke to rile us up. She’s got a sense of humour, this one. Definitely wacky…but is wacky a learned behaviour? Cos her mannerisms really do remind us of ourselves. Of all people, she tends to imitate what I do or say most. Not a surprise there cos I’m her mom. Even her facial expression mirrors mine, especially the ‘jeling’ and ‘eyebrow dance’.

Anyhoo, here’s a picture of my lil darling, taken at the stroke of midnight today:

Happy 18 months old, sayang!

We love you, Wardah Solehah. Happy 1.5yrs old, darling baby. You’ll always be our baby. May Allah keep you safe and happy always, amiin. <3<3<3

Selamanya SEARCH

Watched SEARCH and XPDC perform live last night. While XPDC was ok, SEARCH was, as usual, AMAZING.

Suffice to say that I shed tears upon watching them perform their last song of the night, Gadisku.

Kid’s playing was a bit off though. Maybe he was ill? Or something else…but all in all, they were all superb and they showed why they remain as the BEST Malay Rock group ever.

SEARCH reigns supreme. Period.

Wardah’s vocab as at 14 mths.

So far she can pronounce these words:

Abah
Ummi
Habib
Jidah
Atak (Atok)-at 15mths, correctly pronounced.
Kakak
Abang
baby
ball
bubble
balloon
bear
butterfly (buffly)
bird
baa baa (black sheep)
star
up
down
Duck
cat
meow
dog
frog
oh-oh
yak (berak)
babis (habis)
yeayy
ayo
milk
susu
bobok
sleep
puting
mamam
nak
no
tu (itu)
where
work
book
Hot (as in the hot water, etc)
Elephant (pronounced “eh-fant”)
Jangan
Goal!
Sebok
Jatuh

apa je
apa ni
Nak milk
Nak mamam
Diam ah

She recognises more words than she speaks them. Her first words were when she was like, 4mths? When she began to imitate the sounds ‘Ummi’ and ‘Abah’. I don’t think she actually knew the words then, just imitating the sounds we make. I think she began to consciously understand some words when she was around 6 to 7 mths old. I’m not a baby development expert but I do know my own baby…so that’s what I perceive as a parent.

Now at 14mths old, she shows a keen interest in speaking, generally babbling, singing and humming. I think she will be able to sing insyaallah…like myself and my hubby :)

I’ll add on to the wordlist as and when I can. Or when she learns to speak new words :)

Milestone-walking!!!

Our lil Padawan walked steadily unaided for the first time today!

Alhamdulillah!

Grow up strong, healthy and kind, love.

Ummi and Abah are proud of you ❤

P/s: we have a new nephew born yesterday 10-1-12, Syed Mikael Shah. Welcome to our family, little man! :)

P/p/s: Jidah fell again earlier today and is now warded at KTPH. CT scan showed that nothing’s abnormal but her BP and blood sugar levels are high so they’re keeping her under observation. May she be kept safe…amiin.

Bye 2011 Hello 2012.

How was 2011 for me?

It was one helluva ride.

Most importantly, it marked the official beginning of my family.

110311.

For the first quarter of the year, I took time off work to acquaint myself with the new baby. I experienced firsthand the little joys and many, many sleepless nights of a new parent. Thankfully, hubby, my parents and in-laws helped out. Hubby was in the front seat with me. We manoeuvred so many tricky roads but Alhamdulillah, we managed to always steer clear off any pitfalls and manage to jump right back on track.

I took on ¾ workload with a day off so I can spend more time taking care of our child.
Financially, it was ok I guess because hubby’s pay could tide us over so I’m continuing the ¾ workload for the whole year of 2012.
We managed to pay off most of our debts, YAYYY! Still working on it…hopefully we’ll be debt-free in the next year or two.

Wardah grew at an alarming rate. She became, from an infant, to a toddler who’s more of a talker than a walker. She moves very fast though. We can see how much she takes after us in terms of expressions, speech (the intonations) and gestures. We believe that she was given to us precisely because she’s just so much like us in the first place. Oh, her straight hair became tight ringlets somehow 

We went on a roadtrip to Malaysia with the Lil Padawan and my parents. She charmed people wherever we went.

This year, we tried to bring the nephews out more often. So far, we’ve covered the zoo, Underwater World, Science Center, Sentosa and a staycation at MBS. We also had a mini vacation with my niece and nephew on hubby’s side at JB.

My grandma was hospitalized twice; she’s frail but still spirited. We still make it a point to visit her every weekend.

My mom was also hospitalized toward the end of the year due to an infection. Alhamdulillah she’s all well now.

In Dec, my in-laws, niece and nephew were involved in an accident which left their car wrecked but syukurlah, they were safe. This served to remind us to cherish our loved ones every day.

Oh ya, in Oct, we celebrated Wardah’s 1st birthday and we celebrated in style  Only family and very close friends were invited so it was a gloriously intimate affair where the theme of the day was Princess Wardah ;) We even had a cake with tiara and the works. Wardah was dressed up appropriately as well. Out of that, we had a coffeetable book made to honour the bday girl.

All in all, 2011 marked our first full year as a family.
Our family’s new resolution? To view life more positively. :)
May 2012 bring with it more excitement and contentment. May my loved ones be kept safe. Insyaallah. Amiin.

p/s: the new academic year starts tomorrow! new cubicle, new staffroom, new classroom. bring it on!!!

When it’s true love…

One thing that always looms as the numero uno fear of mine will be the fear of losing someone I love.
Family.
Close friends.
There’s such a finality in losing a loved one that I’m scared that even the memory of that person may fade as time whizzes by.
But then it’s been almost 7 years since our late aunt left us…and I can still recall…
…the way she looks
…the way she speaks, her voice
…her quirks, her mannerisms
…her scent
…my name on her lips
…the way her eyes crinkle when she laughs…

When it is true love, they never truly leave us.
A trace will always be present in our hearts; one that we keep alive with thoughts and prayers for the one we’ve lost.

221246-150105.

She would’ve turned 65 today.

Al-fatihah for my late aunt, Mahdiah Bte Shaikh Salman Bahajjajj.
May Allah grant her Jannah. Amiin.

We miss you, Amati. Till we meet again.

::Tiga Batang Lilin Besar::

Tatkala menjangkau usia
terus terpandang semalam
pepasir menolak graviti
dalam seketika masa
membenarkanku mengimbau sejenak
segala yang pernah dilalui
pahit maung masam manis lemak berkrim
(disukai ramai)
pedas dan segala macam rasa
bukan saja mampu dirasai lidah
juga dirasai pancaindera lain
dan yang satu lagi; perasaan
lalu aku akur

aku diajar mengenal intan
namun kadang-kala masih terpilih kaca
dan yang tentunya dalam kesilapanku jua
aku diberi pengajaran
bila kaca menghiris jari mengguris hati
maka yang ku pelajari
terus tersemat dan lebih sukar dilupakan
ditemani airmata yang berjurai-jurai
(ya, aku memang drama)
kerana dalam raungan tiada berlagu
terselit sebuah irama cinta
yang dinamakan RahmatNya
untuk mendodoikanku agar mampu kembali tenang
dan menghargai segala pengalaman yang dilalui
walaupun membuatku terluka
kerana akhirnya aku mampu tersenyum
dengan keyakinan baru
walaupun bergaris-garis parut di hatiku.

Dalam usiaku yang hampir meniup tiga batang lilin besar
dan dua lilin kecil ini (insyaallah)
aku masih kerap terlupa
akan kasih yang masih dicurahkanNya
kerana aku manusia
maka aku terlalu tolol
dan terbiasa melihat apa yang tiada
daripada apa yang sudah aku ada
apa yang belum dimiliki
sedangkan yang aku miliki ini
sudah menjadi bukti aku amat disayangi
aku manusia biasa (klise, klise, klise!)
maka tidak pernah jauh daripada membuat kesilapan (alasan!)

Dalam usiaku yang ku rasa sudah separuh ini (wallahualam)
aku memandang ke depan
dengan beribu harapan
sambil mengaut berjuta kekesalan
akan ku gaulkan menjadi satu
lalu ku lihat kekesalan bertukar menjadi pedoman
walaupun aku manusia
yang tidak sepi daripada kesilapan.

…dan graviti terus memaksa pasir bertaburan…

lilin

*****

You have been a force of pure positivity, love and joy for us.
We are thankful to Allah swt who has entrusted upon us the responsibility of being your parents, of nurturing and taking care of you. This we hold dearly in our hearts and we will make sure that we will prove ourselves worthy of His gift.
Everyone says you’re lucky to have us but Lil Padawan, we know that we are the lucky ones to have you.
Maybe ‘lucky’ is not the right word.
‘Fated’ is.

:)

In all the joy we bask in today, I say a silent prayer and a million thanks to your tummy mummy who, against all odds, and aside from everything else, had the courage and strength to bring you into this world, into our arms. If one day you feel angry or frustrated about your beginnings, pls remember this. How you came about is something you cannot change. How you live your life is something that you can orchestrate. So hopefully, insyaallah, with Allah’s will, our nurturing and your own hard work, you shall grow up to be a wonderful human being, a loving, kind and generous person, a faithful slave to Allah and a filial daughter.

We have every confidence that you will turn out fine :)

We can’t say it enough, my Filial Rose, so we’ll say it again.

We love you.

Happy 1st birthday, sayang <3

p/s: Hope you’ll enjoy tomorrow’s party!
